Coral Warning / Coral Hope
Created in response to the ongoing global coral bleaching crisis, this series presents a powerful visual narrative about one of our planet's most urgent environmental challenges.
In April 2025, NOAA officially declared the fourth mass coral bleaching event, due to rising ocean temperatures and ocean acidification. Coral bleaching impacts coastal protection, economies, livelihoods, and food security.
But, coral bleaching does not mean coral death—bleached corals can recover and thrive again with proper conditions.
Created for World Reef Day 2025, this series embodies Kelsey’s belief that coral bleaching is both a warning and an invitation—a call to action wrapped in beauty and hope.

The original acrylic piece uses a unique baking soda technique to create three-dimensional coral forms that invite tactile connection, contrasting vibrant healthy corals against stark bleached forms.
The accompanying digital prints expand this message of "warning and hope"—each piece can be displayed as a diptych showing both realities, or separated to emphasize that bleaching and thriving don't have to coexist.
The deliberate framing choices reflect our collective power: we can choose to leave coral bleaching in our past and nurture only healthy reefs in our future.
